In its present form, the custom of displaying figures depicting the birth of Christ owes its origin to St. Francis of Assisi, who made the Christmas crèche for Christmas Eve of 1223.
This crèche was made by my father in the 1950’s. We have had a few nativity sets over the years. I like this one the best. Merry Christmas.
Here is our Crèche It is very special to us as my Dad made the stable many years ago and my Mom made all the figures in ceramics.
When my mother was a young bride in the early 1930’s she bought this very simple Crèche. Many years later when I was a young bride she gave it to me and bought a new one for herself. I treasure the memories of Christmases past when we take this out each year.
We have 2 crèches - the one on the right was bought in Alaska on our 40th anniversary. The one on the left is our traditional one given to is on our 1st Christmas.
This was hand made by my father-in-law about 50 years ago, and passed along to us about 20 years ago.
Our creche was made by my husband Tony's Aunt Dorothy in 1967 as a gift to his mother, Anna. In his youth, Tony made the wooden stable to go with it. It was carefully packed away every year until it was passed on to me sometime in the 80's or 90's. As Tony & I grow older, we are cutting down on the amount of house decorating we attempt. The creche is highly prioritized and usually comes out of storage first. Merry Christmas!
This lovely Illadro Nativity was given to us by a parishoner.
This is our family's nativity. It was always my job as a child to set this up (first with my mother's help and then on my own) and it has always had a special place in my heart. My mother passed in 2018 after a 10 year battle with Alzheimer's, so this year, I wanted to set up the beloved nativity in my own home. It reminds me of my childhood and special Christmas memories with my family.
This is a photo of my nativity scene. I’m adding pieces over time and need the manger. The magi are waiting in the wings!!!
Merry Christmas!
I'm sharing my nativity crèche. My mom purchased it approximately in 1950 in Boston when she married. It has been placed in our home since then. My mom passed it down to me about 5 years ago. The figurines have been glued and reglued...barn has been renailed and a little shaky, but I suspect it was not a brand new barn that Jesus was born in ..and it's very special to me. The figures could be repainted someday when I have the time. Just wanted to share.
Our Nativity treasure from 1955!
This was given to me many years ago by my Aunt Ellie. I enjoy setting it up each December.
